In the 999 Challenge, to be staged at CTC’s York Rally on June 23rd, cycling paramedics will race over obstacles and simulated road blocks to reach injured and ailing patients.
All five of the UK’s cycle paramedics are set to compete.
The 57-year-old Rally, from June 21-23, will also host a demonstration spinning class run by Rick Kiddle, founder of the National Studio Cycling Register. Kiddle, a triathlete, will ride from London to York over the week leading up to the Rally stopping at five gyms to host spinning classes on the way.
York will host the CTC Ron Kitching Memorial Challenge Ride which this year is an Audax counting event. The 100km /150km challenge was staged for the first time last year as one of two CTC Challenge Rides run to raise funds for CTC’s Cyclists’ Defence Fund and other campaign work.
Whilst raising funds for cycling, this year riders will pay their special respects to Kitching, a trade legend, co-founder of the Rally and top British
distance rider of the 1930s, who died in January.
