The CTC's annual national rally will celebrate its 60th birthday next year when around 15 000 cyclists descend on York Racecourse on 26th and 27th June.

York Rally will be 60 in 2004

At the first York Rally, in 1945, five thousand people gathered together in a celebration of cycling after the war.

One of the show’s founders was Ron Kitching, then a Harrogate bike shop owner, later to become one of tghe UK’s most powerful P&A distributors.

"As well as being a highlight of the calendar for thousands of cyclists, York Cycle Show provides the bike trade with an excellent platform from which to reach a huge number of customers," said CTC director Kevin Mayne
