Wren Sports launches ‘Extreme Torque’ e-bike hubs

Wren Sports, the North American-based component manufacturer, has launched its Extreme Torque Star Ratchet e-bike hubs.

The Wren Sports Extreme Torque hubs are the latest innovation to come out of the US company.

Designed around a tooled steel freehub body and a strengthened star ratchet engagement system with 36 points of contact, the hubs have “toughness and durability firmly in mind” according to the brand.

Despite this toughness, the weight comes in at a claimed 390g for the rear hub in a fatbike size.

The steel freehub body is made to eliminate the “bite” often shown on less durable bodies from the cassette thereby ensuring a longer operational life for the user.

Combined with the optimised load distribution and more stiffness across the hub this also results in longer bearing life and lower maintenance. However, when maintenance is required, the no tool servicing feature ensures minimal downtime.

Available in Shimano HG or Micro Spline as well as SRAM XD, the hubs are available for the most common drivetrains on the market

The hubs are available to retailers, wheel builders and e-bike manufacturers immediately with no MOQs or buy-ins required.

Wren Sports Europe’s Richard Hurst said that this is just the latest innovation from a company looking to continue to expand in the UK and Europe.

He explained: “As a relatively small team we are flexible enough to work with our industry colleagues and develop products that solve real problems for both the trade and the consumer. The need for beefed up hubs without making them heavy and cumbersome was communicated to us by a few e-bike companies that we work with in North America.

“They were finding that consumers were wearing out hubs at a very fast rate and so we stepped in to help solve the problem. The Extreme Torque hubs are ideal for wheel-builders and retailers too in order to offer their customers the best possible performance with the lowest maintenance and lifetime cost without the worry that they will be dealing with lots of warranty claims at a later date”.

“They are the ideal hub for all e-bikes or indeed for consumers of non-e-bikes who just value durability and toughness above all else. In the early days since launch they are proving hugely popular in North America already.”
