Ten road and four mountain events planned for this year

Wiggle teams with UK Cycling Events for sportives

Online retailer Wiggle has teamed up with UK Cycling Events to launch a new Super Series involving 14 events.

The series consists of ten road sportives and four mountain bike events taking place throughout 2010 and are designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get out and ride.

With two or three different distances on offer at all events and free entry for under 16s, it is hoped the series will prove popular with families, recreational riders and competitive cyclists alike.

Martin Barden, of UK Cycling Events, said: “We are hugely excited about the Wiggle Super Series and we’re working hard to ensure this is a truly special series of events. The series is all about encouraging as many people as possible to get on their bikes and have a great time riding. Riders will be able to experience some stunning cycling in some really picturesque areas simply by turning up. Let us do the rest.”

Wiggle’s Paul Bolwell said: “We can’t wait to see the Wiggle Super Series get under way and we’re looking forward to getting involved with so many superb events.”

The first event of the series is the March Muddy Madness MTB ride, which takes place on March 21st in Storrington. Other mountain bike events include the Ups and Downs on April 24th in the North Downs, the South Downs Epic on June 27th in Chichester and the Falling Leaves on October 2nd in the New Forest.

For those who prefer to ride on the road, there’s the New Forest Spring Sportive less than a month later on April 18th or The Ups and Downs on April 25th in Dorking. Two of the ten road sportives – The Long One, which is a 200km epic on June 26th in Chichester, and the Jurassic Beast on May 2nd in Dorchester – are believed to be among the hardest sportives in the country.
