Weak Euro leads EBC to cut e-bike prices

Naming the favourable exchange rate as a catalyst for the move, EBC – distributor for EBCO, Solex and AVE – has announced price cuts and a range extension.

With immediate effect EBC has dropped the price on its Solex ebikes, with the folding VeloSolex now at £999 (was £1,299) and the low-step Solexity now at £1,599 (was £1,799).

The Midlands-based distributor has also revealed a broadening of its AVE e-bike range. The line-up uses the Bosch ‘centre-drive’ motor. This system is widely acknowledged as one of the best available and has positioned itself as the must-have drive-train for premium ebikes. AVE too is benefiting from that exchange rate too, said EBC, with prices starting at £1,699.

“The current fiscal crisis does have a silver lining, with an increasingly strong pound the exchange rate is in our favour for imports," commented EBC MD Paul Stanforth. "This has enabled us to implement two significant developments with our ebike business. The first is the price drop with our Solex ebikes, making them incredibly attractive. The Pinafarina designed e-bikes are now incredibly competitive and the folding VeloSolex now falling within the Government’s Cycle to Work scheme criteria.

“The second step-change is the introduction of additional AVE models into our range. The Bosch-driven AVE has always been at the top end of the market. However, with a weakened Euro, even these premium ebikes have become more affordable and we will be announcing full details of the range to our dealers soon, but we can say the range starts at a surprising £1,699.”
