The WD-40 company has developed the dual-action Smart Straw. There’s a wide spray with the straw part down and once clicked upwards the straw allows the precision placement of WD-40.
The permanently attached Smart Straw provides a solution to the dilemma of locating the mislaid red straw.
Bike chains may now be lubed by specialist bike lubricants but workshops still free up seized parts with liberal sprays of WD-40.
WD-40 was developed in 1953 by the Rocket Chemical Company to eliminate water and prevent corrosion on electrical circuitry. WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement, 40th attempt", a name which came from the inventor’s laboratory notebook.
WD-40 was first used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion. The product first became commercially available on store shelves in San Diego in 1958.
