Malden Mills of Massachusetts makes Polartec, the treated polyster base-, mid- and expedition weight fabric used by top outdoor manufacturers around the world. Polartec's silkweight Power Dry fabric is eminently suitable for sublimatic printing and is highly wickable as well as offering a high degree of UV-radiation protection: perfect for cycle jerseys then. And the Volvo-Cannondale jersey has won Malden Mills' APEX award for “Best Next To Skin Product”

Volvo/Cannondale Power Dry road jersey wins award from Polartec-maker Malden Mills

For the second year running, Cannondale clothing has won a Malden Mills APEX Award for Innovation. The Volvo/Cannondale cycling jersey uses the new ‘Silk Weight – Prepared for Printing’ version of Polartec Power Dry.

The APEX awards are handed out once a year to clothing and product manufacturers by the US fabric giant Malden Mills. The three APEX award judges are independent (one is even a journo!) and make their decisions based on Polartec garments showing innovation, functionality and comfort.

The Silk Weight – Prepared for Printing version of Power Dry has a silky handle and has been designed specifically for high defintion sublimation printing.

Other weights of the Power Dry fabric are used by the leading outdoor manufacturers such as Berghaus, Mountain Hardwear and Sprayway.

Power Dry fabrics are designed to keep sweating skin as dry as possible. They use a patented bi-component knit construction that uses different polyester yarns on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is optimised to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly.

The fabric does not restrict the movement of moisture vapour and is very breathable.

Sweat is wicked off the skin to the outside of the fabric, where it spreads rapidly for evaporation. It’s claimed that Power Dry fabrics move 30 percent more moisture away from the skin than other fabrics.

The Cannondale jersey was designed by in-house designers Brie G. Karl, Heather Cameron-Hall and Wayne Hammond. Karl is the apparel product manager. Cameron-Hall is the apparel design manager. Hammond is the senior apparel designer/illustrator.
