'Scooter' folds into spare tyre stash and is charged while driving

Volkswagen reveals e-bike concept

Volkswagen has revealed an electric bike/scooter concept which it says folds away into the spare tyre storage and is charged while the car is on the move.

The thinking behind it is that commuters could park up on the edge of a city and simply tackle the more problematic urban areas by bike.

The top speed is 12.5 mph and the battery will power the bike over 12.5 miles. There are, however, no pedals meaning if the bike runs out of battery the user will be walking the rest of the journey.

The concept is called the "VW Bik.e" and has been promised for production within the next few years.
