Video: Barclays and BikeWorks’ ‘Cycle into Work scheme’

Premiered at the Bicycle Film festival last night, BikeBiz.com is today able to bring you a documentary filmed as part of Barclays sponsorship of the Bikeworks training and rehabilitation programme.

The 15-minute flick documents the life changing journey of three students – Greg Hall, John Knowles and Shenol Shaddouh – as they go about putting their past behind them and starting a fresh with the help of the London bike recycle outfit.

Since Barclays involvement with ‘Cycle into Work’ began in November 2011, 28 out of 38 trainees have successfully graduated from the programme, with almost 80 percent of these now in full-time employment in the cycling industry, including in Barclays Cycle Hire.

David Wheldon, head of brand, reputation and citizenship, at Barclays said: “Our community investment programmes, such as ‘Cycle into Work’ with Bikeworks, help young people improve their chances in life. As well as being trained in specific skills relating to the cycling industry, for those who might never have had a job or have been out of work for a while, this innovative programme helps them to develop broader foundations for future employment . We wish the graduates the best of success in their roles.”

Jim Blakemore, co-founder of Bikeworks added: “Bikeworks is delighted to work with Barclays on the ‘Cycle into Work’ scheme. In the current climate the kind of skills we teach are more essential than ever and we know that the programme makes a real difference to people’s lives; this film is the perfect way to convey that message. We expect to help many hundreds more individuals whilst providing the skilled workforce the cycling industry needs.”
