Thousands take part in traffic-free cycle ride through city centre

Victoria Pendleton and Lorraine Kelly saddle up for Birmingham Skyride

Yesterday (Sunday July 3rd) 15,500 people took part in Birmingham’s mass participation, traffic-free Skyride with Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton and TV presenter Lorraine Kelly.

Locals rode the four and half-mile route, organised by Sky and British Cycling, one of many similar events taking part over the course of the summer.

The two are also holding two bike maintenance workshops in Birmingham later this month (July 15th and 16th) in an effort to help people stick with cycling.

British Cycling is also holding ‘Breeze‘ rides for women on a smaller scale in local areas.
