Long distance saddle is Velo's lightest yet at just 100 grams

Velo introduces the Weightless Open Wing saddle in Taipei

Following on from last week’s big saddle news, Velo has gone in the other direction, introducing what it calls a weightless open wing design.

The all carbon composite saddle is targetted at endurance riders, with the patent pending design providing anatomical support "through omission rather than addition".

At 100 grams, it’s Velo’s lightest creation yet, utilising the intrinsic strength and buoyancy of carbon to form the uniquely designed base, supported by Velo’s patented ArcTech® suspension rail system.

Two versions are soon to be available, the 100 gram WOW VL 1683 and for ten grams more, your customer can take home the WOW VL 1684 featuring slightly more padding.

Here’s the manufacturer’s description of the WOW system:

The secret of the Open Wing system
The comfortable buoyancy of these two hybrid saddles lies in the absence of material rather than its abundance. While eliminating all excess at the heart of the saddle to reduce superfluous weight, the WOW’s wing configuration actually enhances saddle comfort – relieving pressure on the perineum and thus eliminating the typical numbness plaguing a large proportion of long distance road cyclists world-wide.

Athletic aesthetic: flat, racy, and super-thin
Breaking away completely from traditional saddle “role models”, the VL 1683 and VL 1684 WOW saddles are the look of the season and the performance feat of the decade. Successfully reducing the weight of their best performance saddles, Velo goes on to shun the padding, offering comfort as well as style.

UD carbon and advanced multi-forming technology
The new, all-carbon configuration has undergone stringent testing under the most rigorous of road conditions. The development of the new product has also benefitted from the ongoing research carried out by racing teams around the world in order to improve saddle technology.

Velo will be present at the Taipei International Cycle Show on stand J0717.
