Velo-City seeks nominations for ‘Cycling Visionaries’

Velo-City, the international urban cycling advocacy conference, is to be staged in Vienna in June. Delegate places aren’t cheap so if you want to attend, you’re young, and think you’re a ‘Cycling Visionary’, the Velo-City organiser is offering a bunch of sponsored places via a ‘Cycling Visionaries Awards programme’. Visionaries need to "highlight new ideas to evolve cycling cultures around the globe."

The categories are:

Advocacy and Social Projects
Science, Research and Development
Design, Fashion and Cycling Equipment
Urban Planning and Urban Design
Cycling and the Arts

"The programme seeks to support young individuals from different backgrounds and cultural contexts engaged in the evolution of cycling as key to the future of urban mobility," says the Velo-City 2013 website.

Winners of the Cycling Visionaries Awards will be gifted free participation in the Velo-city conference, to be held in Vienna, Austria, in mid-June.

It’s promised that "Cycling Visionaries will learn more about global cycling cultures, develop their own networks and expand the scope of their work."

The visionaries will be expected to present their ideas in speed-datings, lectures, round tables or film screenings. There is funding for up to 20 award beneficiaries, with more places possible if sponsorship is forthcoming.

In April, public voting will choose the Cycling Visionaries. Submissions for the awards close 31st March.

The Cycling Visionaries Awards programme "supports individuals and initiatives that have not yet reached a prime economic level. The programme especially encourages the participation of persons aged 30 or younger."
