More than 80 events across the US and Canada will occur this Saturday.
Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day honours the memory of Jack Doub, a teenage MTBer from North Carolina who died in 2002. The Jack Doub Memorial Endowment helps fund the event.
"IMBA is extremely proud of this programme," said Mike Van Abel, the group’s executive director. "Providing recreational opportunities for America’s young people is a key task for us, and Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day helps IMBA reach out to thousands of kids."
The Senate expressed its support for National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day with an honorary resolution (S. Res. 257). The legislation was sponsored by Senator Richard Burr (NC) and Congresswoman Virginia Fox (NC), and was co-sponsored by Senator Ken Salazar (CO) and Representative Mark Udall (CO).
The Congressional Record describes the bill as: "A resolution (S. Res. 257) recognizing the spirit of Jacob Mock Doub and many young people who have contributed to encouraging youth to be physically active and fit, and expressing support for National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day."
