Both products have been deemed potentially harmful due to repeat failure issues

UPDATED: SRAM recalls Zipp 88 hubs and Quick Releases

SRAM has issued a recall for wheels featuring the Zipp 88v6, 88v7 and 88v8 aluminium front hubs and Zipp Quck Releases.

The flange issue, originally thought only to affect the original Zipp 88 front hubs, has been determined to exist in later versions. As with the Zipp 88 hub, the aluminium front hub flanges on the Zipp 88v6, 88v7 or 88v8 could fail and could cause a crash.

SRAM, in cooperation with the CPSC, has initiated a recall of some Zipp quick releases. The quick releases can fail to engage in the closed position, posing a crash and injury hazard. To date there have been no reports of crashes or injuries. Globally 18,530 quick releases were sold in both titanium and steel between March 2015 and December 15 2015.

UPDATE: Distributor Fisher Outdoor Leisure has sent over some links for UK dealers – Hubs and Quick Release – to find out more details (you’ll need a B2B log in from Fisher for those links to work). For further questions, retailers are advised to contact the SRAM Technical Centre.
