UK commuters create 77.8 million tonnes of C02 emissions

A UK comparison site has analysed the daily commute and found that we collectively produce 77.8 million tonnes of C02 emissions every year, just by going to work.

It also found that our daily commutes account for 20.5% of the UK’s total emissions.

The data, collected by Compare My Move, calculated the gross emissions across 325 areas of the UK.

Unsurprisingly, London is the worst offender with 11.12 million tonnes of CO2 each year – 42,766 tones every single day. That’s a staggering 14.3% of the UK’s total commuting emissions with the second-highest city (Birmingham) producing just 2.14%.
