This is a personal victory for Two-Niner stalwart, Gary Fisher. He has long been lobbying for race recognition of the larger wheel size and presented his case in person to the UCI's governing body.

UCI sanctions use of 29-inch wheels for MTB racing

Twenty-Nine inch wheel mountain bikes are now free to compete in any UCI sanctioned race around the world.

“We’d been talking for almost a year about this thing. They are reasonable people at the UCI and they realize that the Two-Niner is a legitimate bike,” said Fisher.

“I’m just psyched; I’ve been around long enough to help make so many great changes in the bike industry.”

The Two-Niner has been experiencing success this season. Subaru-Gary Fisher rider Nat Ross won the recent Saab-Salomen Mountain Mayhem 24-hour event, and placed second in the US 24-Hour Solo National Championships on his Sugar 292.
