US watch firm Timex has launched a cycle-specific GPS ‘watch’, named the Global Trainer.
The 150-year old manufacturer is calling the Trainer its ‘first serious entry’ into the cycing market, following Timex’s last decade in sports technology.
Aimed at cyclists of all disciplines, the Global Trainer can be worn on the wrist or attached to handlebars with an included custom designed bike mount for easy viewing.
Sporting a similar look to the Timex Ironman lines, the Global Trainer features integrated SiRFstarIII GPS geostationary satellites for pinpoint accuracy and ANT+ wireless sensors for precise pace, speed, distance, altitude, heart rate, cadence and power measurement.
Timex Group UK MD Gavin Crilly-Mckean said: "Since the launch of Timex’s first heart rate monitors, then the first GPS training system for athletes, we have been searching for the right technology to truly enter the cycling market, with the launch of Global Trainer we have that product, the feedback we have been getting is that it hits all the right buttons and more.”
The Global Trainer is compatible with a wide range of devices and sensors using ANT+ tech. The device can also be connected to a PC.
The device is available to the trade via Sport Assist.
