Team GB and Australia’s Paralympians heading to Bike Blenheim Palace

Just weeks ahead of London’s Paralympic Games, nine cyclists from the GB Para Cycling Team will be taking part in the Bike Blenheim Palace Time Trial this weekend.

The team will go up against six members of the Australian Para Cycle team on the Saturday August 18th.

The time trial is part of a wider ‘Festival of Cycling’ that takes place across the weekend at the Oxfordshire-set landmark. Other highlights include the Brompton World Championship, a new 40knm off-road sportive, bike polo, family rides and much more.

Bike Blenheim Palace 2012 will see a significantly bigger Event Village featuring brands, a cycling café and the Kiddimoto Championships for the under 5s. Exhibitors include Scott, Mavic, Schwalbe, Enigma Titanium, Rotor, Adidas, Magura, Cinelli, Campagnolo, Juice Lubes and many more.

GB Paralympic and World Champion Sarah Storey won fastest female at Bike Blenheim Palace in 2011 in 28.29minutes. This year Storey will be joined by: David Stone, Jon Allan Butterworth, Lora Turnham, Mark Colbourne, Shaun McKeown, Rachel Morris, Karen Darke and Crystal Lane. The Australian team will include Jayme Paris, Simone Kennedy, Alexandra Green, Susan Powell, David Nicholas, and Michael Gallagher.

After last year’s event, Storey commented: "Bike Blenheim Palace is a superb day out for the whole family and there really is something for everyone at the event. I loved riding the Time Trial event and having closed roads and such a big field made for exciting competition. It’s the perfect place to start racing and for the seasoned racers a real privilege to have a traffic-free course!"
