Solid tyre specialist Tannus has received a TUV safety award for its 700 x 23 road model.
The Aither 1.1 tyre is the second design produced by Tannus to be awarded the seal of approval from German testing house TUV Rheinland.
The product was subjected to a series of rigorous standardised tests to ascertain its exact level of performance in extreme circumstances. Tannus is currently the only bicycle tyre company in the world with TUV test approval.
Jazz Walia, Tannus’ European sales director, commented: “This is great news for Tannus. The award is not a huge surprise to us as we have seen the immense amount of research and development that has gone into the construction of our tyres.
“We wanted to pass the TUV safety test so that customers could be confident that the product they are buying is safe and robust. The TUV certificate has now proven that independently.
“We’ve carried out a huge number of tests at every stage of our development over the years; putting the tyres under huge stress and pushing them to the extreme has always been a priority – to have our work peer-reviewed is very satisfying.”
TUV tested all aspects of the Tannus Aither tyre to the international standards laid out by the ISO. These included testing installation by both men and women, breaking distances, extreme temperature variations and weight-limit assessments.
Earlier this month Tannus announced plans to double the number of worldwide Tannus brand airless tyre users by the end of 2017, read our full report here.
