Dutch bicycle subscription service, Swapfiets, has opened its second London store, with the news of its Waterloo location opening doors arriving in tandem with the launch of the brand’s new Power Plus e-bike.

The new Waterloo store is said to embody Swapfiets’ mission “to create more than just a pick-up  / repair shop” and instead delivers “a hub for Londoners to learn more about cycling” and a means to engage with Waterloo’s growing active travel community. In the future, we’re told that this could even include events and talks hosted by the brand’s cycling experts – always on hand to give advice about city cycling.

With some 4000 Londoners already riding Swapfiets bikes, the opening of the Waterloo store – doubling Swapfiets’ footprint in the capital city – comes at an important time for the business.

Power Plus: Swapfiets ebike

The arrival of the new Power Plus e-bike is clearly positioned as “designed for more power, less effort and everyday urban needs.”

From picking up your groceries to dropping your children off at school – yes, you can safely attach two child seats on this bike – the newest addition to the Swapfiets roster is optimised for city dwellers. A unisex design, equipped with two handbrakes (a new feature on this model), the Power Plus also comes with automatic front and rear lights and anti-theft double locks. Another ‘we know our customers’ feature – the entire frame is coated in high-visibility safety paint, which makes the bike significantly more visible at night, where visibility aims to enhance rider safety.

  • The Power Plus is equipped with a Shimano EP6 motor and a battery offering a range of up to 120km – real-world cycling from Crystal Palace to Waterloo and back almost nine times before needing to recharge (which takes 3.5 hours).
  • For ease of use, the Power Plus also has a single speed gear that easily reaches 25km/per hour at top speed.

With Londoners facing rising tube fares and shelling out up to £325 per month on travel*, Swapfiets says it offers a worry-free alternative with its monthly subscription, “coming in at just a third of the cost of the average commute (£89.90).”
