On the weekend of January 19th and 20th teams of three cyclists from businesses and NHS organisations in the North East of England are invited to try the Workforce Workfit Cycling Challenge. Prizes have been donated by Storck bicycles, based in Gateshead, and Alchemist Fitness personal trainers. The aim is "to get more people off the sofa and onto their bikes in 2013." Presumably, not just static gym bikes…
Each team of three cyclists will ride a fifteen minute time trial either at Eldon Square on Saturday 19th January or at Gateshead Metro Centre on Sunday 20th. At the end of the weekend the winning teams (men and women) will win the Cycle Challenge Prize
The winners will get a VIP day riding experience in the Northumberland countryside with Storck Bicycles. The ride will start at the Forge Cafe in Allendale and each winner will get to ride the latest 2013 Storck road bikes for a 25 mile loop. Each winner will also receive a Storck goody bag of cycle clothing and accessories.
At the shopping centre ride sessions Alchemist Fitness personal trainers will be on hand to offer specialist advice and a sports specific exercise programme for cyclists. There will also be lots of other information about cycling routes, cycling products and how to get started.
Elaine Wilson, of NHS North East and last year’s Olympic Ambassador for the North East, said:
"Our ultimate aim is to get more people engaged in physical activity across the north east and cycling is a great way of getting people involved no matter what their fitness level."
