SRAM has announced that it plans to increase its chain and internally geared hub pricing for MY2005 by 6-8 percent.

SRAM raises prices; cites raw materials shortages

The exact percentage depends on the type of hub and chain.

According to SRAM officials this step is the minimum necessary due to the rising demand and subsequent price hikes on steel and other metals because of the very high demand on those materials.

"Looking at the steel content used in our hubs and chains we would in fact need to increase the price by 12-15 percent but we feel that the market and our customers cannot absorb the all of the price increases in steel and other metals that we are experiencing today," said Martin van Beek of SRAM Europe in Holland.
