Schweinfurt facility turns into development, design and service centre

SRAM pushes manufacture to the East

SRAM has announced it will be scaling back manufacture in Germany over the coming years and passing production to existing factories in Asia.

The company’s Schweinfurt location is to decrease manfacture and become a centre for product development, design and servicing for road, mountain and trekking bikes, as well as suspension systems.

SRAM said the move was made in response to the growing demand for qualified product service and training.

The firm explained: "The future of the location is not in question and SRAM will invest even more into the IGH product R&D and production globally.

"Manufacturing of IGH products will decrease over the coming years as we transit to existing IGH production in Asia. At the same time, SRAM will invest significantly into technologies and manpower to increase the output on the Product Development, Dealer Service and Logistic side."
