Details have now emerged on the bike range coming from cycling knight Sir Chris Hoy, available exclusively – and developed with – Evans Cycles.
The seven launch bikes are expected to be available in late May. The Hoy range will come in a wide range of sizes, we hear, catering for riders from 4’10" up to 6’4". Fitting is an important concept for the range, Evans said.
The road range starts with a Shimano Tiagra equipped £850 entry level bike, followed by a £1,000 edition with Shimano gearing, RS10 wheels fitted to a higher grade 6066-tubed frame with standard full carbon fork. Top of the road range is a Shimano Ultegra-specced model with Mavic Aksium wheel/tyre system for £1,350.
The city bike line-up of hybrids come in four price points and share some design aspects with the road bikes, naturally. They start at £550 for the entry level model, which features 1×8 SRAM X4, disc brakes and 6061 alloy frame and fork. Next up, the £650 version has 1×10 SRAM X5 gearing, while the £750 edition has a carbon fork, 2×10 X5/8x gearing and upgraded disc brakes. Finally, the top end version has a 2×10 X7/Rival gearing mix with upgraded brakes.
Evans’ James Olsen and Joel Natale have been developing the bikes with Sir Chris.
Evans blogged: "Chris has many ideas about the bikes as well as a willingness to let James’ design experience take over in other areas. He is very conscious that not everyone wants to ride in the way that he is conditioned to and the outcome is a great compromise.
"The road bikes aren’t back-breakingly aggressive nor do they have a particularly tall head tube, delivering a ride which with a slightly different cockpit set-up fitted both Sir Chris and James. Testing is now complete and the initial seven launch bikes have been finalised and signed off by Sir Chris."
As we learnt back at the launch in November, there will be a track bike in the range at some point.
