Simon Fellows joins Cycling Weekly as tech editor

Cycling Weekly has appointed Simon Fellows as tech editor amid a re-structure that seeks to strengthen the 133-year-old brand’s position in the cycling media industry, across online, print and video.

Fellows brings with him 35 years of experience in the journalism and publishing industries, during which time he’s written on topics ranging from fashion to music and of course, cycling.

A regular Cycling Weekly freelancer in recent years, Fellows sold a successful content publishing company – Fellows Media – in 2019 and has been working as a consultant ever since.

In his new role, he will oversee CW’s extensive tech news content online and in print, manage the title’s buying guide portfolio, and review content that is trusted by cyclists around the world.

Based in the Cotswold hills, Fellows is regularly out cycling the local roads and trails, riding a range of bikes from his home-built De Rosa SK Pininfarina to a Specialized Turbo Creo SL EVO.

Joining the team, Fellows said: “This is an incredible opportunity to work with a truly iconic brand. Cycling tech has been a passion of mine ever since my early teens when guided by features in Cycling Weekly, I would gradually upgrade my treasured Carlton Clubman Reynolds 531 frame with better components as soon as my paper round earnings allowed. Tech has moved on since then, that’s its nature, but my enthusiasm for it hasn’t diminished, bolstered by unrivalled coverage in Cycling Weekly, both in print and online.

“I’m proud to join such an exceptionally strong editorial team and can’t wait to play my part in
this historic brand’s next chapter.”

Fellows joins a newly re-organised structure, which saw news writers Adam Becket and Tom Davidson promoted to news editor, and senior news writer respectively, in January this year. Fitness editor, David Bradford, was promoted to features editor.

Becket has worked at Cycling Weekly’s publisher, Future, since 2020 and joined from print magazine Pro Cycling; Davidson graduated with a distinction-classified master’s degree in International Journalism from City, University of London and joined the team in 2022.

Bradford has served as fitness editor at the title for seven years and now brings his expertise in crafting hard-hitting, entertaining and insightful features to a wider range of topics, from pro racing to community news and tech.

Digital editor, Michelle Arthurs-Brennan said: “Simon brings with him extensive experience within publishing, and I’m confident that he’ll guide our editorial team to produce content which exudes quality, and drives engagement.

“I’m also thrilled to have made internal promotions across our news team, and to see our talented writers progress within the team.”

Magazine editor Simon Richardson said: “This is such a key appointment for us, I can’t wait to see what Simon brings to CW from his quite fascinating background.”
