Silverfish takes on Skratch Labs Nutrition

Silverfish is now exclusive UK distributor for Skratch Labs, with deliveries available to stores in the first week of February 2015.

Silverfish owner Darren Mabbott had been searching for a nutrition brand to add to the distributor’s portfolio for some time. The firm said it was after a natural, effective and unique brand that stood out from the nutrition brands that have been emerging "almost on a weekly basis".

Skratch Labs’ Exercise Hydration Mix is available in six flavours and in individual 454g bags, serving 20x 500ml portions (£13.95). A box of 20x singles costs £24.95, one single £1.50 and a Taster Bundle (SL Bottle and one of each flavour – x6 – is £12.95).

Skratch Labs owner Dr Allen Lim worked as a Sports Scientist and Coach for a major Pro Cyling team before starting his all-natural nutrition brand. Travelling to races across the globe including Le Tour, Giro d’Italia and La Vuelta, Dr Lim realised the daily use of high-sugar bars and drinks was the cause of upset stomachs, or ‘gut rot’. He started mixing his own sports drinks to replace lost salts and electrolytes through sweat and so Skratch Labs was born. Dr Lim reduced sugar and added sodium with nothing artificial as well as cooking real food to energise riders before races and recover after.

According to the blurb: "Instead of making an “orange” drink, he made a drink made with oranges. Instead of making sweet syrupy bars, he made savoury cakes with sushi rice."

Dr Lim teamed up with Chef Biju Thomas to write a cookbook called “The Feed Zone” teaching others how to get Fast and Flavourful food from natural ingredients.

The mission at Skratch Labs is to "provide people with the inspiration, life skills, and products to take better care of themselves in sport and everyday life".

The Skratch Labs range – including the Cookbook – are available through Dr Lim’s shop in Boulder, Colorado and in the UK exclusively from Silverfish.
