Japanese cycling component and accessory brand, Shimano has launched the new Tiagra R4000 Series; a refreshed 2×11-speed mechanical road groupset created to deliver “confident shifting, practical gearing, and a more accessible fit” for a wider range of road riders. With a focus on real-world usability, from lever reach and comfort to drivetrain compatibility, Tiagra R4000 delivers what Shimano says is “modernised road performance at an attainable price.”
At the heart of the system is an updated shifter with an ergonomic lever design for easier reach across a wider range of hand sizes, paired with a new lightweight 11–36T Hyperglide 11-speed cassette option for the new 2×11-speed system. The 11–36T cassette delivers a broad range for mixed terrain and climbing, while helping reduce system weight, more than 200g lighter than reference configurations, supporting riders who want a lighter road setup without sacrificing gear range.

The rear derailleur is designed for 2×11-speed road bikes. Its compact design combines lightweight construction with reliability for what Shimano says is an “exceptional road-riding experience.”
Front Derailleur: FD-R4000
With lighter front shifting and smooth, natural shift action, the Shimano Tiagra 11-speed front derailleur is an ideal choice for the road cyclist. With Shimano’s toggle link construction and an optimised cage design, it delivers the on-demand shift performance modern road riders demand.
Crankset: FC-R4000 (52–36T and 50–34T options)
The new Shimano Tiagra FC-R4000 crank embodies the DNA of the brand’s more premium road designs, delivering a balance of weight and efficiency. Purpose-built for road cycling, it is available in two chainring options: 52-36T and 50-34T. It also comes in crank arm lengths of 165, 170, 172.5, and 175mm.

The Shimano Tiagra 2x11s Dual Control Lever incorporates advanced ergonomics from the acclaimed Shimano 105 series. Its redesigned lever position and bracket, developed through research on various hand shapes, provide comfort and control for road cyclists. Featuring a premium feel, reliable hydraulic disc brake power, and smooth shifting, the Tiagra 2×11-speed system offers precision and confidence on the road.
Cassette: CS-RS400-11 (11–36T)
The 11-36T 11-speed cassette o ers a 327% gear range. Whether sprinting on the ats or tackling steep climbs, you can choose the ideal gear ratio for a wide range of situations.
Chain: CN-HG601-11 (existing model; not new)
This Super Narrow HG-X11 directional chain offers precise shifting and improved durability thanks to Shimano’s SIL-TEC treatment on the inner plate surfaces.
Frame and Compatibility Requirements TIAGRA R4000
To support consistent shifting performance, frame and drivetrain compatibility should meet the following targets:
- Chain: SHIMANO 11-speed-compatible chain (CN-HG601-11 and CN-LG500 specified for the series)
- Rear hub spacing (O.L.D.): 135–142 mm
- Chainstay length: from 410 mm
- Chainline: 43.5 mm (consistent with modern road front-shifting targets)
- Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD): 110 mm (for the specified crank platform)
- Front derailleur clearance: comparable to FD-R7000-type considerations (modern disc-road-oriented cage/clearance approach)
- Front chainring clearance: comparable to FC-RS510-type chainring/crank expectations
- Freehub interface: HYPERGLIDE (HG) Spline M and HG Spline L (with 1.85mm spacer) (11/12-speed)

The new Tiagra R4000 sits between 105 R7000 and Cues U6030, offering a 2×11 mechanical experience at a more accessible price.
