Shimano has become the fifth company to sign up to the ECF’s Cycling Industry Club since Eurobike.
The Club aims to create a €1million advocacy fund which supports the European Cyclists’ Federation’s aim to double the level of cycling in Europe.
The Cycling Industry Club was founded at Eurobike in 2011 and has members from all sectors of the industry including bikes, parts, publishing and IT services. The Club is currently funding programmes to improve cycling advocacy in eight high potential countries and campaigning at EU level to release billions of euros for cycling investments and development.
Shimano joining sends a powerful message in favour of cycling advocacy, according to the ECF.
Sato Yuasa, Shimano’s Sr. Executive VP, head of bicycle components Division: “We are very honored and pleased to join ECF’s cycling industry club. ECF is taking an important role to improve the cycling environment by joint efforts of industry colleagues. The bicycle and cycling is now much more caring in its 200 year’s history because of the health of people and environmental mobility. In order to responding to people’s care, this advocacy should be very important in Europe.”
Tony Grimaldi of Cycleurope is the Chairman of the Cycling Industry Club Advisory Board. He said: “This is important news, it shows that the industry is uniting behind our valuable work. Since Eurobike we have shown that growing cycling through advocacy is a mission shared by companies of all sizes, from all sectors and all countries. With more members we can achieve so much more.”
