Shimano has introduced a new take on the saddle with a 3D printed Pro Stealth, interestingly dual focused on comfort and Performance.
The launch announcement states the “Pro Stealth 3D Saddle offers riders the benefits of increased comfort through 3 Mesh Zones of 3 distinct densities, while also encouraging the same aerodynamic position on the bike that you have come to expect from Pro’s Stealth Saddle range.”
- The Pro Stealth 3D Saddle has been developed using pressure mapping data from bike fitments and test rider feedback.
- The saddle provides a high-density front, a lower-density middle, and a low-density rear, producing PRO’s most comfortable ride yet.
- The high-density padding on the nose of the saddle offers the maximum support for the rider’s sit bones as they tilt forward into an aggressive position.
- The lower-density middle dissipates the rider’s weight across a larger area of the saddle when riding in a more upright position, and in so doing reduces the risk of developing hot spots from focused contact points on the saddle.
- The low-density rear reduces the overall weight of the saddle, as riders do not usually make contact with the rear of the saddle while pedalling. It also complements the overall aesthetics of the Pro Stealth 3D Saddle, helping to create a design that suggests speed, purpose, and comfort.
3D printing with a clear focus on comfort and performance
Offering an insight into the hexagonal cell design, the Pro Stealth 3D features areas of low-density padding, utilized in a tighter and higher density throughout the saddle’s middle (lower-density) and nose (high-density) Mesh Zones.
Comfort is said to be “boosted beyond the fine-tuning of density zones with this hexagonal cell design”. These cells “absorb vibrations individually and collectively, reducing road buzz and thus rider fatigue”. The brand also highlights that the “uncovered hexagonal cells are intended to showcase the power and precision of 3D printing technology, further augmenting the striking looks of the saddle”.
Pro Stealth 3D options
Available in Team and Performance level constructions, the Pro Stealth 3D Saddle allows for a choice between carbon (Team) or INOX stainless steel (Performance) rails, as well as options for 142- or 152-millimetre widths.
The 3D printed EPU padding also features a dimpled upper to help lock riders in place on the saddle and allow for efficient pedalling, even during all-out seated efforts.
