Scottish MTB suspension-analysis device kickstarts for funds

A Scottish engineer has developed a mountain bike suspension analysis device and is seeking development cash of £20,000 on Kickstarter. Alan Mason’s SussMyBike has already had 69 pledges, worth £8,689, and has another 33 days in which to reach his target. An Australian MTB suspension tuning system called ShockWiz was successfully funded via Kickstarter in the summer.

SussMyBike is a smartphone-linked box of electronics that attaches to a suspension fork. It provides the rider with feedback on how to improve their suspension performance.

Mason said: “Tuning the suspension on your mountain bike for best results can take hours of trial and error and lots of head scratching. SussMyBike takes away the guesswork and gives you the facts to adjust your bike properly."

The gadget will work on mountain bikes using AIR or COIL shocks, front and rear.

Mason is a software developer.

"Now I am following my passion by building a solution for a problem that I care about – suspension setup on my mountain bike," he said.

SussMyBike received mentoring help from the Mountainbike Centre of Scotland, based at the Glentress trail centre in the Scottish Borders, and which gives grants to Scottish MTB companies and also helps with market research. SussMyBike was tested by electronics engingeers at Edinburgh’s Napier University as part of the Mountainbike Centre of Scotland mentoring process.
