Scott Montgomery is 50 years old. Not that you’d think that if you went riding with him. He lives in Sun Valley, a ski and MTB resort in Idaho, USA, where a disconcerting number of the locals are screaming fit. He’s at Eurobike searching for brands he could introduce to the US market.
Most recently he was chairman of Lifeboat Events, which organizes the US trade events PressCamp and DealerCamp. Prior to this role he was responsible for reintroducing Scott USA to the US market, and before that he was one of the top executives at Cannondale, a company founded by his father.
He has now parted company with Lifeboat Events and is seeking new opportunities.
“I’m at Eurobike because this is my culture, I’m one of the community. I have to be at this show. It’s the most important show in the world.”
He came to Eurobike with a list of “ten interesting things” to check out, he said.
“Going forward, I want to be in an entrepreneurial environment. When I think back on my career, the most fun I’ve had was starting Cannondale Europe in the Netherlands, starting Cannondale Japan , and starting Scott in the USA.
“Start-ups are creative. You have to make difficult, strategic decisions. I also like putting together good teams. I have lots of contacts.”
He won’t be rushing into any career decisions.
“I need to make sure it’s the right opportunity,” he said.
He doesn’t have a business card at the moment, but if he did, what would be on it?
“I’m a brand builder, a market maker.”
