Built from the same engineering DNA as the Artech series, Scope says the R-Series brings revolutionary technology to a broader stage, delivering “best-in-class aerodynamics, at a race-ready weight, and durability designed to last.”
According to Scope, by adopting the proven rim profiles of the Artech series (without making use of the Aeroscales), the new R-Series guarantees optimal aerodynamic performance. The benchmark leading R-series wheels come with steel spokes and offers a weight of 1349 grams for the new R4 (45 mm) all-round wheelset, and just 1525 grams for the new R6 (65 mm) aero wheelset. In line with the Artech portfolio, the new Race series will be available for Road, All-Road, Gravel and Triathlon.
Here are further details from the release:
The shape of the Artech rims is defined by the Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics (AEA) technology. This algorithm optimises the most aerodynamic rim profile, guaranteeing optimal aerodynamic performance.
The initial AEA algorithm, developed in 2017 in collaboration with the University of Technology Delft (aerospace engineering), was 2D-based and included the interaction effect of the rim and tyre in the optimisation. To redefine the benchmark of aerodynamics, Scope evolved its algorithm by making it 3D-based, including the complete bike with components, into the optimisation.
The new R-series wheels have been extensively tested in the Silverstone Sports Engineering wind tunnel to validate the performance and, at the same time, benchmark it against the latest competitors.
Since the new R-Series adopts the proven rim profiles of the Artech series, we anticipated a comparable level of aerodynamic performance. Testing confirmed that the patented Aeroscales surface (exclusively featured on the Artech series ) delivers a significant reduction in drag at yaw angles both above and below 10 degrees.
For nearly a decade, Scope’s R-Series has been a trusted choice in the peloton. This new generation reaffirms its position as a benchmark, delivering technologies riders can depend on, whether in the heat of competition or during the demands of daily training.
The Sapim CX-Ray T-head aero spokes make the new R-Series robust and less sensitive to side impacts, a crucial advantage in the chaotic conditions of, for example, spring classics. Meanwhile, internal nipples are hidden inside the rim, ensuring a clean aesthetic while also providing a subtle aerodynamic gain.
Beyond aerodynamic gains, a key objective for the new R-Series was a significant reduction in weight. To achieve this, we studied the Artech hubs and applied the same design principles to the new R-Series hub, without compromising the design brief. The result is a hub set that is not only lighter, but also stiffer and more durable.
The lightweight, CNC-machined R-Series hubs feature Scope’s proven Diamond Ratchet engagement system for instant power transfer and long-term reliability. A mechanical labyrinth seal effectively blocks dirt from entering the hub, further increasing durability. In addition, the hubs are engineered for bladed T-head spokes, preventing spoke twist and ensuring consistent performance.
As with all Scope hub sets, the new R-Series hubs are compatible with all major freehub body standards, including Shimano HG/Micro Spline, SRAM (X)DR, and Campagnolo/N3W.
The new R-series hubs feature a mechanical labyrinth system, effectively blocking dirt from entering and increasing long-term durability.
A known technology today on all Scope wheels, our Local Reinforcement carbon technology, where we increase the number of carbon layers around the spoke holes on the inside of the rim. This way we significantly reduce the weight, while preserving the strength and stiffness.
Just like the rim profile, the tyre bed profile of the R-Series is adopted from the Artech. This guarantees easy tyre mounting, direct inflation, long-lasting air retention, and full compatibility with all (tubeless) tyres, while offering the ideal balance between aerodynamics, rolling resistance, and safety.
At Scope, we believe a hooked tyre bed is essential to ensure compatibility with all clincher and tubeless tyres. That’s why all R-Series Road, All-Road, and Triathlon wheels feature a hooked design. The only exception is the R-Series Gravel wheelset, which uses a hookless rim profile optimised for dedicated off-road tyres, where lower tyre pressures are standard.
The all-new R-series will be available for Road, All-road, Gravel and Triathlon.
The R-series wheels are hand-built against the high Scope quality standards and come with:

To develop the fastest and most lightweight wheelsets, without compromising on stiffness, durability, and safety, it’s crucial to approach the wheel as a system and develop every individual component in-house.
