'First scooter festival in the world' arrives in Stoneleigh

Scooter fans head to Scootfest this weekend

The rise and rise of the scooter scene is set to continue with the first scooter festival in the world, set to arrive in the UK this weekend.

Taking place at Stoneleigh Showground, Warwickshire, Scootfest will run from August 17th to 19th, featuring competitions, music, camping, a retail village and cinema.

A 5,000-strong crowd is expected to attend, with pro riders from around the globe taking part in what the festival is calling the first World Championships for scooters. As well as the pro competition, amateurs will be able to take part in numerous tournaments.

Public courses, pro parks, flatland arenas, giant airbag, scooter workshops and an outdoor cinema will be among the features.

One of Scootfest founders is Grit and Crisp distributor i-skute. The busy company said the festival has been designed to support and grow the scooter market as a whole.

And the scooter scene is stronger than ever, iSkute’s Dan Maker told BikeBiz, revealing that scooter sales have proved invaluable to some struggling of iSkute’s bike retail customers and that the market generally continues to mature.

“Scooter rider ages are getting older,” Maker explained. The scooter business is exceeding expectations, according to the firm, which recently moved warehouse for the seventh time due to outgrowing the space available.

At a recent dealer show in Gatwick the firm revealed a line of Grit helmets were in the works and that the distributor was planning to return to the Bike Place show at the start of next year.
