School kids cycle to Lapland with Bike It

Over 2,000 pupils from 12 schools have been challenged to cycle to Lapland as part of a drive to keep children cycling during the winter.

Clare Robinson, Sustrans Bike It officer for Slough, has organised the initiative, which will see children cycle the 1,982 mile distance from Slough to Lapland over ten days later this month.

Parents, pupils and teachers in Slough and South Bucks will clock up mileage points every time they cycle to school, with each small trip contributing to each school’s overall total. The winning school will win a visit from a bicycle stunt display team.

Clare comments, “Last year the virtual bike race saw over 1,200 journeys made by bicycle, even despite the weather and it was fantastic to see so many families enjoying the cycle to school. The schools in the area work very hard to promote cycling to school, and I wish them the best of luck for the Christmas race.”
