Roodog has caused a stir with the public unveiling of its polka dot step-through electric-bike, the manufacturer has told BikeBiz.
The Polka, available from January 2014, is pitched at female riders and is retailing at £1,095.
The family-owned business has a range aimed at everyday riding, including the unisex step-over Tourer and step through Chic. The Explorer and Striker are inspired by MTB styles, while the Avatar has a built-in frame battery and matt black finish.
At Cycle Show, Roodog had three electric bikes on the test track, including the Polka Dot.
“We wanted to be able to offer something just for women,” Roodog company director Weiwei Wu told BikeBiz. “We have gone through a lot of hard work to make the paint work right; every spot is individually placed on.
“The Polka Dot has attracted incredible amount of attention and interest during the Cycle Show – from all age groups; male audiences took down the details for their wives/girlfriends/daughters. One of the female cycle enthusiasts came to us and said she would actually ride an electric bike for her commute to work, because it is so classy and pretty. Female audiences have shown appreciation that we have brought out something just for the women, and this is exactly what we wanted to achieve, to encourage even wider age group and female riders to get on the e-bikes.”
Roodog was established in January 2013 and brought its first electric bikes to market in July.
“We have done extensive market research prior to the launch of the brand; we listened to our target customers in terms of price positioning and product and believe we have something to suit every taste whether your commuting to work, cycling for leisure (on or off road) or just need that extra bit of transportation tucked away in a campervan or motorhome and all at prices that will not be beaten. We have a close relationship with our factories and regular visits to ensure our high standards are met. We are able to achieve, head turning bikes that appeal to all age groups whether you are male or female.”
