Rock Shox recall: Madison to the rescue

Richard Peploe of Madison has told BikeBiz that despite no definitive word from Rock Shox about the recall, Madison believe its important to act swiftly to restore consumer- and IBD-confidence.

We have decided to get all affected forks back from our dealers, and then re-work the forks ourselves when repair kits become available, says Peploe.

We cannot wait another week without contacting dealers, and it is unreasonable to expect them to hold on to unsaleable stock indefinitely.

Madison wrote to stockists on Friday, asking them to return Judy TT’s at

Madisons expense, for a full credit.

Either we arrange a collection, or they send the parcel and claim a refund, explains Peploe.

It is important that we can account for every fork.

IBDs are requested to contact those customers who have bought Judy TTs and request the forks back. The customers can claim either a refund or a higher value replacement.

Says Peploe: Customers should be given a full refund for forks and labour, and the dealer claims a credit, plus a £25 credit on labour. In the

case of mail order customers, we will cover customer postage as necessary.

Or [the customer] is offered a 2000 model Jett Race RKAT18 (£150 SRP) for the price of 2001 Judy TT (£100 SRP). [The dealer gets a] £25 credit on labour, and any postage. Customer then accepts the new forks as a permanent replacement.

Madison will be taking out consumer magazine advertisements alerting customers to the necessity of returning their forks but IBDs should still contact all purchasers.

Peploe stresses that its only Judy TTs that are affected by the recall, as the Metros and the Jetts mentioned in the US stop-sell notice have not yet reached the UK aftermarket.

Bikes from Trek, Specialized and others are believed to be OE fitted with all three of the fork types subject to the recall but Madison are not responsible for these OE forks. Rock Shox are dealing with suppliers direct.
