Aimed at the same sort of upscale customers who fork out thousands of dollars on Backroads holidays and Trek Tours, Procyling magazine's 270-page tome contains "45 of the world's most spectacular cycling routes."

Procycling produces bike ride bookalogue

Most of the routes were ridden and photographed by Steve Thomas and his clones. Clones? How else could one man write so many touring articles for so many magazines?

Procycling’s ‘The Ultimate Great Rides’ is a cross between a book and a perfect-bound magazine and will be available later this week from bookstores, stockists of the monthly mag and from procycling.com.

Procycling editor Jeremy Whittle said:

"In the past five years, Procycling magazine has travelled all around the world, chasing cycling legends such as Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich in races like the Tour de France, but we’ve also crossed continents in search of the ultimate bike ride. At the end of the very best bike ride is complete satisfaction and a real sense of achievement. That’s what Steve Thomas’s ‘Great Rides’ features have always been about. They have been a key part of Procycling magazine since we first launched in 1999."

The book features rides in the French Alps, the Spanish Sierra, the Scottish Highlands, Austria, Borneo, Cuba, Colorado, the Welsh mountains, Morocco and Switzerland.

"This is a practical guide, but it’s also to be used for inspiration, with the aim of persuading readers to get out on the road," said Whittle.
