PowerShelter, a company specialising in safe, open-access e-bike battery charging infrastructure, has formed a strategic partnership with BatteryIQ, a battery safety monitoring platform.

The collaboration integrates BatteryIQ’s smart Battery Management System (BMS) into PowerShelter’s SmartShelter charging lockers, providing real-time battery safety monitoring for e-bike users, operators, and building managers.

As battery safety is a major concern in e-mobility, with incidents of fires from low-quality or damaged batteries leading to bans and reputational risks, a significant portion of potential e-bike buyers are deterred by fire safety concerns.

BatteryIQ fills a gap we’ve wanted to address for a long time: Real-time visibility into whether a battery is safe before something potentially goes wrong. That changes the conversation with riders, building managers, fleet operators and cities, from assumptions about safety to real-time proof. Together, we’re making the case that safe charging isn’t a premium feature. It’s the baseline – Jake De Wulf, Co-Founder, PowerShelter

The integration allows for continuous, real-time monitoring of battery health, charge status, and safety alerts (such as temperature anomalies or incorrect charger use). This data is accessible to users and operators, enabling early detection of unsafe batteries and supporting compliance and insurance requirements.

Benefits:

● Real-time battery health status: identifying degradation, cell drift and damage before they become dangerous.

● Live charge level and predicted completion time: improving locker utilisation and rider experience.

● Environmental and safety alerts: flagging temperature anomalies, water ingress, incorrect charger use and cell under-voltage.

● Location data: enabling asset tracking across sites and fleets.

● Full battery history: supporting compliance, insurance requirements and end-of-lease value.

PowerShelter is a natural partner for BatteryIQ. Their lockers are battery agnostic, serving riders across different brands and different battery types, all in one location. Embedding our technology into their SmartShelters means safety monitoring is built into the infrastructure itself, not bolted on as an afterthought.

BatteryIQ is available to any battery or e-bike manufacturer who wants to give customers dynamic, data-driven proof that their battery is safe. Because safe batteries shouldn’t need a disclaimer. The proof should be visible at all times, in real time – Nick Bailey, Founder, BatteryIQ

This collaboration could provide a credible alternative to blanket bans on e-bike charging by offering infrastructure that can demonstrate safety in real time. This partnership aims to set a new standard for battery safety in shared e-mobility infrastructure, making safe charging a baseline expectation rather than a premium feature.
