Manufacturer has the mass market in mind for latest ranges

Powabyke releases next generation of e-bikes

Powabyke’s Mk 2 X-bykes have launched to the trade, with a new range consisting of three models – the X-6 LS, X-67 and X-24 – the latter being the highest spec, but at only £995 retail.

The new electric bikes are available in 18 and 21-inch frames with six and 24-speed versions.

Featuring a retro polished frame, improved electrics and a simple push in plug throttle and sensor, and the slim-line lightweight high torque brushless motor, the bike weighs in at just 21kg.

“The new MK2 X bykes proved to be a big success with the dealers who have previewed them and taken stock already,” enthused Powabyke MD Nick Child. “The improvements are significant in terms of performance and reliability.

“However, our biggest achievement is ease of service with ‘plug and play’ electrics, saving a significant amount of workshop time that would otherwise be required to put a bike back on the road. The design effort was inspired and ‘demanded’ by our dealers and our team have reacted well.

“The advance of the e-bike industry has often been hampered by poor quality, unreliable products that are difficult to analyse and service, and time will tell but we are very confident that we achieved some major advances in these areas.”

The bikes can reach 15mph, and one charge will take the bike 20 miles.

The firm carried out research with Leeds University and found most of its customers have replaced their usual travel options – including cars, trains and buses – in favour of the e-bike. The firm speculated that the sector has been experiencing its growth over the decade due to e-bikes paying for themselves in this way.
