Porsche E-Bike Performance has announced the selection of a facility in Croatia as the future site for its battery production, marking another step on the path to Porsche’s first e-bike drive system.
The move toward independent production – said to be “a strategic, future-focused decision” – sees the battery manufacturing facility located near the headquarters of the company’s Croatian subsidiary, Porsche E-Bike Performance d.o.o., at a facility which will span approximately 2,000 square meters.
Founded in 2022, Porsche E-Bike Performance GmbH is “committed to actively shaping the future of mobility”.
The company initially focused on developing its first proprietary e-bike drive system and is now gearing up for production. The batteries are being developed at the Croatian subsidiary’s headquarters in Zagreb and will be produced just a few kilometres away in Sveta Nedelja.
When selecting the production site, Porsche E-Bike Performance prioritized proximity between development and manufacturing to enhance collaboration and efficiency.
- Preparations for a battery production facility in Croatia are underway
- The Croatian site will strengthen collaboration between development and manufacturing
- Production is set to begin in 2026
“We see tremendous innovation potential in battery technology. Comprehensive quality control and production reliability were the key reasons behind our decision to bring the Porsche system’s battery production largely in-house,” says Dr. Alexander Wünsch, CFO of Porsche E-Bike Performance GmbH.
The existing building will be converted by the end of the year and equipped with several highly automated, scalable production lines. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2026 to coincide with the launch of the first Porsche e-bike drive system.
Production of the drive unit, including the motor and transmission, is set to take place in Germany, with the exact location still under review. The focus at this site will also be to closely integrate development and production.
