Polartec comments on Alberto Contador partnership

Alberto Contador, founder of Fundación Alberto Contador has officially launched the Polartec-Kometa Continental team.

Now in its sixth cycling season, the Fundación Alberto Contador operates three Cycling Teams in total, the other two being Junior and Under 23. Together, the teams total 38 cyclists.

Ivan Basso said of the Polartec-Kometa project: “It has a promising future that needs all of you, riders, technicians and sponsors to move it forward. We are like a family that works together to make this dream possible.”

Contador added: “Not only to help our riders to be professionals but also to help them to grow as people, transmitting our principles of honesty, teamwork and sacrifice, an ideal that we also share with our sponsors.”

Co-headline sponsor Polartec is now in its third year as key sponsor of the Junior and Under 23 teams. Primarily working with cycling apparel, Polartec has created a race kit for the three teams. The second headline sponsor is Italian Food Company Kométa, followed by Trek, Segafredo, Vittoria, Kask, Koo and Rotor.

CEO of Polartec Gary Smith commented: “The Contador Foundation is great for cycling. It uniquely nurtures and grows our future champions from Junior through to their first races as Professionals. I have great respect for the people behind it, namely Alberto and Fran Contador, Ivan Basso and Giacomo Pedranzini. And let’s not forget the funds the Project raises for research into the prevention of strokes, a condition that Alberto suffered from early in his career. The last three years have gone by very quickly and we look forward to continuing our support for the Project for many years more."
