Polaroid eyes up the bike trade

The Polaroid Eyewear cycling range features the company’s UltraSight polarised lenses and is available in cycle-specific sport and off-bike models, ranging from £50 to £89 at retail. The company is looking to appoint bike shop stockists. 

The Polaroid Corporation was formed in 1937 by Dr Edwin Land. Polaroid sunglasses became huge sellers.

The company’s UltraSight lenses are made with what Polaroid calls ‘Thermofusion Technology’.

"Traditional manufacturers use vacuum forming to curve their lenses," claims Polaroid. "This technique often results in lenses that warp the wearer’s perception of sizes, shapes and distances, potentially leading to eye strain. Others employ injection moulding techniques – which bring the polarizing lens layer into direct contact with the hot liquid lens material. The result is damage to the polarizer and its glare-blocking properties.

"Thermofusion Technology ensures each UltraSight lens is optically correct and blocks glare more effectively than other polarized lenses. Our polarizer is protected from direct heat by being locked inside each lens."
