David Duffield plugged it remorselessly during Eurosport's Tour de France coverage. It's the 96 mile Phil and Friends ride in the Peak District next weekend. Various celebs and journos will be joining Phil Liggett and 200 CTC riders on a punishing ride starting from Sheffield

Phil & Friends ride fills up

CTC president Phil Liggett will be joined by Sean Yates, Eurosport Tour commentator David

Duffield and Brian Cookson, President of the British Cycling Federation. Also riding are the editors of Cycling Weekly and BicycleBusiness (hmm, thinks, better get some training in quick).

Liggett said: "This will be a serious challenge for any cyclist and a fine opportunity for riders to test themselves and raise cash to benefit cycling."

The ride starts and finishes in Sheffield on Sunday (at 7.30am!)and will take in some of the most demanding climbs in the Peaks. It includes sections of the Milk Race which Liggett organised. The full route is 96 miles but there is an optional cut off after lunch at Hope, reducing the distance to 69 miles.

There will be three controls where food, drink and mechanical back-up

will be available although organisers have advised entrants to take

snacks and water with them.

Cyclists will have the chance to raise cash for CTC’s Cyclists’ Defence

Fund, CycleSafe campaign and for its campaign work for cycling.

You can still register for the event. For route and entry details email cycling@ctc.org.uk or visit http://www.ctc.org.uk.
