Edge Innovation was developing one before it went bust. Honda's got a nice one. GT's one has been knocking about in prototype form for years. Now it appears that Be One has one, too. Gearbox, that is. But the Dutch offshoot from Batavus reckons it has a commercial version, one not just for DH machines but for touring and city bikes as well.

PeteSpeed drive-train system to be unveiled at Eurobike

Be One Bikes is calling PeteSpeed "a new way of cycling."

As with most of these G-Box thingies, it’s hard to tell what’s in the box without disassembling the drive train so the tech-heads will no doubt make a beeline to Be One’s booth at the Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, 1st – 5th September.

Be One says it has patented the PeteSpeed drive and that it’s a winner because of its "simplicity and efficiency."

PeteSpeed "replaces the fragile rear derailleur."

Be One said the new drive train system also "protects against dirt, moisture and rain" making PeteSpeed "a great benefit for the consumer on trekking, touring and city bikes."

PeteSpeed is a "protected gearbox system integrated in the frame concept of the bike". As with other gearbox systems, it’s possible to change gear without pedalling.
