Pennine Cycles creates bespoke Yorkshire Grand Depart build

Pennine Cycles has created a bespoke bicycle in honour of the team that helped bring the Tour’s Grand Depart to the UK.

The one-of-a-kind bike has been built by Pennine Cycles and dubbed ‘The Pennine’. The frameset features individual accessories to make the bike unique and the colours yellow, green, white and polka dot all feature on the frame to embody the different leaders’ jerseys from the biggest bike race in the world.

Paul and Sandra Corcoran, owners of Bradford-based bike shop, are now loaning this one-of-a-kind Yorkshire-built bike to Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire who led the bid to bring the event to the county, for him to cycle on in the run up to the Grand Départ.

Paul Corcoran, managing director of Pennine Cycles, said: "The bike is a celebration of the Grand Départ coming to Yorkshire and it’s an honour that Gary wanted to ride one of our bikes. We are sure that it will make riding a pleasure for him."

Pennine Cycles has been building Pennine frames in Bradford since 1946, originally as Whitaker and Mapplebeck (cycles) Limited.

Since leading the winning bid to bring the event to Yorkshire, Verity has started to saddle up and cycle regularly before the big race arrives on July 5 and 6.

Gary said: "It’s going to be great to get out there on this very unique Pennine Cycles bike and the fact it has been designed with so much care and detail is fantastic. They are one great example among many of the businesses, groups and individuals embracing the fact the world’s largest annual sporting event is coming and it’s great to see them celebrating that and the sport they love."
