400 member-strong co-operative scores prize for innovation

Oxford Cycle Workshop Co-op scoops award

Co-operatives UK has honoured the Oxford Cycle Workshop Co-operative at its Excellence Awards 2011.

The co-operative, which now boasts 400 members and focuses on offering cycle training within the local community, won the award for developing an innovative business initiative that delivers value, reflects co-operative principles in practice and also provides inspiration to other budding co-op enterprises.

The Oxford firm was one of four winners awarded on the night. The co-operative was presented with its Innovation in Co-Operative Enterprise Award at the Co-operative Congress 2011 in Birmingham.

“The awards recognise excellence, innovation and ethics of businesses across the co-operative sector and Oxford Cycle Workshop Training is a worthy recipient of this award,” commented David Button, chair of the award organiser Co-Operatives UK.

“The Co-operative Excellence Awards are now in their third year and the record number of entries for 2011 and the quality of entries we have received from across the co-operative sector has been exceptional.

“Congratulations to everyone at Oxford Cycle Workshop Training for winning this award.”

Director of Oxford Cycle Workshop Training Dan Harris said: "We feel truly delighted and honoured to be given this award. Co-operative enterprise is so rich and colourful with innovation, our mere nomination was cause for much celebration.

“To have all the hard work of the last two years acknowledged in this way only fuels our enthusiasm for the future as we embark on some big new projects. We very much look forward to telling our 400 members the exciting news."
