Over 19,000 headed to Fort William for MTB World Cup weekend

Earlier this month over 19,000 fans from around the globe gathered for the Fort William Bike World Cup over the three days (with a record Sunday crowd of over 9,000 on June 8th).

Broadcast live on Red Bull TV and with 294 registered media on site, Brits Manon Carpenter, Danny Hart, Gee Atherton and Inverness-born Greg Williamson, among others, competed over the weekend, which included the Downhill World Cup, BUFF 4X Pro Tour, National Trials Championship and Scottish Power Mini DH. 

Aside from the riding, Fort William hosted an expo over 6,600m2 featuring 55 traders. Industry sponsors included Shimano, GoPro, Buff, Alpine Bikes and dare 2b.

And a few more stats for you: Fort William has been awarded 29 times since 2002, including UCI Best World Cup nine times and IMTTO Best Mountain Bike Event in the World five times. The competition saw 285 riders from 26 countries, with 15 UCI Elite Teams, 18 UCI Teams, 7 National Teams, 19 IMTTO/Tech pitches.
