At a time when Orbea has recently undergone significant structural changes, preparing the business for its future, Damian Hackett, UK and Ireland country lead, has announced his decision to step down.
Despite the ongoing retrenching phase in the cycle industry, Orbea – a cooperative – has positioned itself as a company relentlessly focused on expansion and growth.
With this in mind, the business has been committed to “diligent resource management” – of paramount importance in keeping the business moving in the desired direction.
Talking specifically to this point, a spokesperson for the brand notes, “This new competitive scenario has required a realignment of several functions and redefining some decision-making areas in the organisation.”
It is here that UK and Ireland country manager Damien Hackett states: “The decision to step down is one I have considered deeply, but it best aligns with my personal goals at this stage in my career, as well as the new structures emerging within Orbea.”
Legacy
Hackett has been at the helm of Orbea UK for eleven years, a period marked by a number of significant achievements and significant milestones.
Reflecting on his time with the company, Hackett shares: “We have weathered a lot of storms since 2014 together. We have far exceeded our early goals, and we did it fundamentally thanks to the commercial team I have had the honour of leading. They have so capably harnessed the immense efforts from our colleagues in The Basque Country, who worked tirelessly to deliver exceptional products and overcome every hurdle thrown at them. And, of course, none of this would have been possible if our dealers had not placed their trust in our brand. A real example of ‘We Not Me’ in action.”
The future of Orbea in the UK and Ireland
Orbea’s CEO, Daniel Martinez, has expressed his gratitude for Hackett’s contributions and leadership, noting, “Damian’s impact on Orbea UK and Ireland has been profound. His dedication and commitment to excellence have been pivotal in our growth and success in these markets. As we move forward, we are excited to build on the strong foundation we have established and continue to drive our brand’s expansion and innovation.”
Orbea remains steadfast in its commitment to its values and mission. The cooperative model that underpins Orbea’s operations ensures that the organisation remains focused on sustainable growth, intelligent resource management, and delivering exceptional products and services to its customers.
Looking ahead
The departure of Damian Hackett marks a significant moment in Orbea’s story in the UK & Ireland, but the company’s focus on nurturing talent and fostering a collaborative culture will be key to its continued success in the UK and Ireland.
“The team we have in place now is exceptional,” says Hackett. “They are 100% focused on building healthy and long-term relationships with our retailer partners and will ensure Orbea continues to consolidate its market here. Even as it enters its 185th year, there is a lot of history yet to be written for Orbea, and I am so honoured to have had a small hand in writing a part of this current chapter.”
