OECD’s Philippe Crist wins award from Cycling Embassy of Denmark

The Cycling Embassy of Denmark has given its annual Leadership Award for Cycling Promotion to Philippe Crist of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Crist works for the OECD’s International Transport Forum and is a strong supporter of cycling. His award was presented at Velo-City Taipei. Previous winners of the award have included Tony Lo, CEO of Giant, and Mike Bloomberg, the former Mayor of New York City.

Crist’s award was presented to him by Mortel Kabell, the Mayor of Technical and Environmental Affairs at the City of Copenhagen (Crist on the right in the photo).

Marianne Weinreich, chairman of the Cycling Embassy of Denmark, said:

“Philippe’s work has proven invaluable in getting the international community to truly realise the huge benefits and opportunities in cycling. We hope that the award will prove an inspiration for him and others to continue promoting cycling on both a local, national, and international scale."

Crist said: “I have only won two awards in my life that have really mattered to me on a deep personal level. The first was an award I received when I was quite young. The second award I received from [the Cycling Embassy of Denmark] yesterday evening. My childhood award launched me on a voyage … [this] award confirmed that I had arrived."

He added he would now "redouble my efforts” on promoting cycling.

The International Transport Forum is an inter-governmental think-tank within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. The OECD is an international economic organisation of 34 countries, founded in 1961 to stimulate world trade.
