No VAT on Ontario bike sales

From December 1st, Ontario bike buyers will not have to pay RST (equivalent to VAT). The scheme, which runs until November 31st 2008, aims to give Ontarians an incentive to go out and get fit via cycling.

Cycle helmets, lights and bells will also be exempt from the sales tax.

Bikes over $1,000 will still carry VAT, as will components, lubes, accessories and tubes.
